The third time was the charm for boys lacrosse at the MSHSL Delegate Assembly. On a voice vote the delegates adopted Bylaw 500 which officially recongnizes boys' lacrosse as a varsity sport.

Many hours of work went into this over the past 4+ years. Minnesota Lacrosse Assocation President Howard Rogers deserves much of the credit for staying with this effort over the years.

Another big thank you to all the delegates who have supported lacrosse and kept bringing this issue to the delegate assembly. Their work was crucial to this result.

The MLA would also like to thank Jody Martin, Director of the US Lacrosse Men's Division, for flying out from Baltimore to speak to the Delegate Assembly.

This milestone is the result of the countless number of people who collected signatures (10,000+ according to Mr. Rogers), contacted delegates, showed up at the meeting to show support and worked behind the scenes to make this happen. A big thank you to all of you.

So far, 7 high school girls lacrosse teams (Holy Angels, Cooper, Armstrong, Jefferson, Kennedy, Chaska & Edina) have announced that they will be full MSHSL varsity teams starting in 2006. All 7 of these teams made the 2005 NSLA club playoffs, and these teams comprised 6 of the top 7 spots in the final 2005 NSLA club playoff standings. Congratulations all!! It was a long process and everyone involved should be proud of their efforts!

This brings the total # of varsity girls lacrosse teams in the state to 21...and a couple other teams may also make the move soon...

Based on the gate receipts, over 1000 fans attended this year plus all the players, coaches and officials involved in the games.

Plan to join us again next year!
